15.14 Qal Imperfect Strong: What to Memorize
\(Pre =\) קָ and \(V_S = \bar O\)
- Just as with the QP strong paradigm, we will need to have the Qal Imperfect Strong Verb Paradigm memorized “like a robot” before proceeding to Lesson 16
- Imperfect Preformatives
- י for 3ms, 3mp
- א for 1cs
- נ for 1cp
- תּ for everywhere else (3fs ,3fp, 2ms, 2fs, 2mp, 2fp)
- We can summarize this by saying \(Pre =\) קָ
- Exceptions:
- 2mp/2fp have \(V_1=\bar A\) displaced by a Sheva as required by propretonic reduction
- \(V_1\) will be reduced if there is a pronominal suffix as required by propretonic reduction - Lesson 19
- The QI \(Pre\) acts as if it is the result of the Rule of Sheva
- Exceptions:
- Imperfect sufformatives
- 2FS: י ִ
- 3MP/2MP: וּ
- 3MS/2MS: נָה
- \(V_S = \bar O\)
- Exceptions:
- 3MP/2MP have \(V_S\) displaced by a Sheva as required by finite sufformatives
- Stative verbs may cause other \(V_S\) changes
- Exceptions:
