24.2 Niphal Meanings
Niphal is usually equivalent to the english Passive voice, but not always
- Most often, the Niphal is simple action with either a passive or reflexive voice
- שָׁמַע
- Qal - He heard
- Niphal - He was heard (passive), or he heard himself (reflexive)
- Some English translations do not overtly seem passive or reflexive
- אמן - Niphal - to be reliable, faithful, trustworthy
- לחם - Niphal - to fight, do battle with
