Traditionally, Piel has been described as “active/intensive”; however recent scholarship is calling that into question
- Cause a state (‘factitive’)

- Q - He filled
- D (Piel) - He caused (something) to be full

- Do something repeatedly (‘iterative’)
- הָלַךְ
- Q - He walked
- D - He walked around

- Declarative - he declared (someone) innocent
- Denominative (a verb made from a noun) - He acted as a priest (כִּהֵן from כֹּהֵן “priest”)
- Intensive?
- שִׁבֵּר
- Q - He broke
- D - He smashed
- This is debated among Hebrew scholars
- Perhaps he caused it to be in a state of brokenness?
- Perhaps he broke it repeatedly?
